Why do these items fetch a good price ?
And what use are they to anyone
Asking this because i have my old log book for my 3.8 Jaguar Mk 2 .
It was wrote off in the 1960s only think i keept from it was the radio, log book , and the Jaguar mascot, and i still have them all..but the radio was fitted in to my Ford Zodiac

60's cars often had 'hand stamped' aluminium chassis number (VIN) plates, pop riveted on to the shell.

Collectors buy things such as expired MOT certificates, tax discs etc. and there will be those who collect old-style log books too.

Some kit cars use jaguar suspension and the builder should use the suspension all from a single vehicle and have the log book as proof. Some disreputable people will sell a miss match of jaguar parts with a different log book just to get rid of the parts. That's where the sale value of an old jaguar log book is.

They sell them to ringers, I believe its illegal and if you contact eBay they will remove them from sale.
Ringers buy them, they steal a good car then buy a log book and stamp a new VIN plate pop rivet it on to the body and change the plates and then sell it .
Another way is they steal a good car buy a spares or repair car or shell and do exactly the same.
It's a nice little earner, classic cars are easy to steal and give a good return when sold on .

I keept the mascot after i removed it .It was in 1980 when all this went down . And these mascots are numberd to each car.
The car was a 3.8 Jaguar , with wire wheels colour was pearl white with black leather .
This one was special it was used on a race track, and the fuel filler was in the centre just under the rear screen and the boot lid. I found some paperwork to say it had been at Brooklands .Never thought much about it at the time . I lost the log book for a time ,but it come to light looking for photoes . I think i will do a check on the reg plate. Can i do this and if so how?

Check if a vehicle is taxed and has an MOT

Then there's the 'double ringer' MO (OK, from the 60s/70s)
They sell it, then steal it back and put on the original chassis number or another stolen one.
As back then, ammending the V5 for engine number and colour was not scrutinised.
