It seems there is a ton of kits available on the internet for this job. Now its simple to buy one and make a mistake. can people with experience please guide me as to which kit to buy and other extras that maybe needed? I would like to keep to oem/oe quality.
Thanks.

Not a fan of these kits, sellers dont often get the best quality and bundle cheaper - its for a buyers convenience only.

I would stick to a MB dealer for the bits. Its not a job you want to do again for want of poor parts.

Yes - Baz at B.J.Mason recommended having a new cooler. They're not stupid money from Mercedes, and I suppose if the cooler itself failed in the future (is that a thing?) I'd have to pay for all that labour and lots of other parts again.

Must confess I haven't come across a thread were the cooler has been done. Maybe a I should look at that

Most Indy’s (I believe) change the oil cooler because of the work/cost to change the seals buddy . They don’t want you back saying there’s another leak .

And now I'm in 2 minds because this doesn't seem like a job one would want to do again

pulled my oil cooler when i didi the manifolds, turbo and everything else, when it was off i cleaned the surface up and then fitted the new purples ( the originals were still on mine) celaned up both mating surfaces and then refitted. I was going to fit a new cooler but mine was fine, it was't leaking it was just preventative work because I am a fussy git.

used all new bolts to torque it down along with a new swirl flap motor, upgraded link arms, all new gaskets etc etc, also cleaned up my inlet manifolds, heat exchanger etc etc etc, check the thread. Plenty of pics ;)
