Om648 whooshing sound when rev in idle.

I’ve never heard of them, the wording on the website seems poor. Also mobile number only sounds iffy to me

Who would you recommend?

A little harsh to judge a company on a mobile phone number and a website to be fair.

I did ring Eurocarparts, just for an idea of price. £477+vat for a recon. 2 year guarantee. I’ve used their reconditioned turbos before, not had any problems.

To me too. Check them out at Companies House. Check their reviews...

I did actually look over the reviews, mostly positive feedback. I've also looked at a different company there reviews were very similar. I suppose with a turbo it's half a lottery on it lasting a decent amount of time.

2 year guarantee is available with two other turbo company's Ive looked at. And cheaper than that of ECP.

You asked me for a recommendation. In my experience you often get what you pay for. I do this stuff for a living, and I’ve been burned before. Eurocarparts units are OK. I’ve not had issues, and they don’t quibble over deposit refunds. Some places like to tell you no refund because *insert made up reason here*.

So ECP rebuild turbo's? I wouldn't have thought so. So you purchase all the turbo's you install from ECP?

Price doesn't always make for a solid product!

There’s a phrase in the motor trade, “buy cheap, buy twice”.
A van visits my shop every two months. The fella buys old core. Steering racks and pumps, old clutches, old turbos, loads of stuff. He grades the turbos 1 to 4 depending on condition and wear or damage to the hot and cold side castings. He’ll give me £100 for a grade 1 and £5 for a grade 4. He then sells the core on to various reconditioning firms. Who do you think buys the grade 4’s? Not all reconditioned turbos are the same. The price will give you a clue.

I buy a few from ECP. Depends on the customer budget. A turbo from Mercedes is four figures. Not many will spend that on an old car, but some do. You do whatever you like, but you’ve asked for my advice, and I’ve given it. I’m not going to argue with you about it. If you plan to drive to webuyanycar immediately after fitting, go cheap. If you plan to keep it spend a little more. If you want the best go Mercedes genuine parts. That’s all I have to say on the matter. Goodnight and good luck.

So you do purchase all your turbo's from ECP?. That I imagine have rebuilt from a 3rd party. Then probably price them up to make a tremendous profit on.

I would have thought to purchase a reconditioned turbo, one would purchase direct from turbo reconditioned outfit. Cut out the middle man so to speak.

It's evening at the moment 😉 but I'll take the good luck in good faith

What to think about is, if you buy a cheapie and it goes tits-up, how inconvenienced are you going to be in any likely scenario?

If you take the car on a tour of the Continent, and the turbo lets go, you'll wish it hadn't... The more you spend, the greater the probability that will not happen; there's no absolute guarantee, but as the man who does this for a living has implied, you pays your money and you takes your chances...

As said previously I would be more inclined to purchase from a turbo reconditioned company than a 3rd party multi parts company. With what seem to be increased priced up very similar products.

I won't be taking a near 20 year old vehicle across the continent, I've done some crazy things but that would be one of biggest 😂

The two turbos I've seen from two different establishments are near on identical on price. And they are not what I would call cheap.

You can have a car serviced at A main dealers, and from a independent spealists, just because the main dealers is more expensive, it doesn't make it better in my opinion. Just saying...

How do you know it's job done, I could have more issues underlying than just a failed turbo! You can take your hasty manner onto your own thread, you are also very welcome.....
