E55k AMG Sold / S211 E320 CDI I6 sold W212 E63 6.2 N/A saloon. S212 e250 cdi .
Our 2004 IL6 320 CDI I've noticed is starting to blow some smoke on kick down or heavy acceleration. Just got the car back from having an refurbished turbo actuator installed. And a leaking injector re seated. Car is driving really well like before. But notice when returning home from one of our sons football practice, when I applied some heavy acceleration I noticed some smoke in my rear view mirror, much more evident with the headlights of the car following me, I could see the smoke trail. 230,0000 plus.

Do these diesel engines smoke a little or can anyone suggest some checks I can do to maybe clean up the smoking exhaust. Can a blocked up EGR valve cause such smoke on heavy acceleration?

Cheers.

I think when you put your foot down some smoke will come out initially. My e320 2007 with 160k does it, but otherwise drives well.

It's not noticeable in the day time. More noticeable at night when a cars following, the trail of smoke can be seen with the cars behind headlights. Do you guys notice this also?

Thanks

yes mate I find it very useful when you get a cyclist who hog`s the road and I have to stay behind them until I can overtake giving them enough room has the law say`s

What’s emission reading on mot?

Assuming your inline 6 cylinder car is more or less the same as the om613 in the w210 320cdi (except your IL6 has a more sophisticated turbo) your smoking may be down to an vacuum operated egr valve not closing fully. A good clean out of the egr soot with Mr Muscle cleaner may be the fix so the valve operates as it should again. You will get some smoke anyway though on a diesel with no dpf but it should not be a smokescreen.

It's normal on pre DPF cars. There's so much low down torque that the engine rpm doesn't normally get above 2500 rpm. It probably does it good to give it a good thrashing from time to time - once the engine is good and hot first though.

22 min 26 max Pass. A Bulge in a brake hose under pressure was only issue had to put right.

Took the EGR valve off this evening give it as good a clean as I could with wd40. I'll get some carb cleaner/brake cleaner at some point give it a better going over. Took the car for a spin it's blowing a lot less. The valve was caked up. Never been off I'd say 230k 🥴. Job I had removing it hands are torn up. I was going to give up at one point I thought it was welded 😂. I'll give it another going over when get the better cleaning materials.

MOT failed on emissions on a S320 cdi 2007, even though I just got back about a month ago from a trip to Naples and back, with depetane in the tank, taking it to Prestige motors in Horndean to have a look.

Was wondering do some diesel owners use any Diesel injector cleaners or emissions cleaners on there cars. Was thinking of giving the car a dose of injector cleaner or something. Also not sure if it has any relevance but the glow plug light has began to stay on intermittently, wondering could this be a cause of the smoke that the car can produce over heavy throttle. It's also a black colour smoke. Does this indicate unburnt fuel, the injectors could be over fueling possibly?

Thanks

Had the EGR valve off today again. This time a proper clean up, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, tooth brush wire brush, course type cloth. Anyway come up spotless, also added a bottle of Wynn's emmision cleaner. Took the car for a good (Affalterbach) tune up 😁, no Italian tune ups with this man he says 😁😁.

Anyway after a good few pulls in a very non busy roads. Keeping to the speed limits of course. I got rid of quite a bit soot. Pulling so well this engine with quarter million miles on it. I'll think I'll add a bottle of the Wynn's every few tanks. I'll give the car an oil oil filter fuel filter air filter and pollen filter change in a 1000 miles or so time. So all good in the om648 locomotive garden 😁👍

I took the the car for another MOT before the 10 day period was up, it failed, chap told me to get halfords Diesel Magic and come back in an hours time, bought a couple of bottles, straight into the tank, a run down to Portsmouth and back to hedge end, and it passed, he said to to put a bottle of the stuff every 6 months to keep the injectors clean, sounds like good advice.
