Agreed. A £3k budget should find a really good'un. I did an analysis of asking prices in the MB Club Gazette small ads a couple of years ago and the average price then for a W124 saloon was £2665. But note that the wiring loom problem also affected 1991-1996 models other than the W124. If you find a good car with a problem loom, get £750+ knocked off the asking price. That said, the problem has yet to appear in my 1996 Coupé.

Sometimes I get quite worried by you either that or you have our house bugged We had decided to do exactly that Mrs F is going to drive the MB while I prepare the Puma for sale, needs a bit of paint on the bonnet and a wheel refurb then a valet, this will get her used to a "proper" car again instead of a go kart. So the search continues C230K might be an option
