I'm looking to purchase a decent obd2 Mercedes scanner to do tasks such as read and erase fault codes, electronic parking brake retraction to replace brake pads and DPF regen.

Can you anyone make a good recommendation?

For me personally, I'd recommend iCarsoft CR -PRO,, it ticks all the boxes, if you choose this one, make sure that if you buy this one, buy it from an approved iCarsoft supplier. Now, it has to be said that some members on this forum did have problems with iCarsoft , so read on before you make a decision.

Thanks for the suggestion and heads up. That looks like it will do the job and the price isn't too bad. I came across the TOPDON ArtidDiag 800 BT, it has more functions although a bit more expensive: TOPDON ArtiDiag800BT ArtiDiag 800 BT Car Diagnostic Tool, All Systems Scan Tool with 28 Maintenance Services, obd2 wireless diagnostic scanner, Oil Reset/EPB/SAS/TPMS, AutoVIN, Free Lifetime Upgrade - Albionshire Diagnostics

Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm thinking paying a bit more so I could future proof it. Do you know if it's possible to add additional functions to the iCarsoft CR PRO?

@markjay Many thanks for the video links. The carly scan tool looks interesting, I really like how portable it is and the fact it's phone based! But I'm getting the impression from the video and their website that it's a bit short on maintenance functions. It seems more for fault code reading and adaptations / coding. Does anyone have any experience with Carly for maintenance works such as EPB and DPF?

I think once you enter the slippery slope of car diags you will be after more than the basic functionality you describe above.

A good reader is hardware intense to probe all the modules, on that basis alone I would be a bit suspect of something that works on a mobile phone.

future proofing is a bit of hindsight as that depends on the forward/back compatabality of the reader and future cars. In that regards icarsoft offer updates.

If you are mb specific then their v3 MB reader is not too old.

I agree, the iCarsoft is the more serious tool of the two. If you will have only one scanner, go for the iCarsoft. Or, just do like me, and get both :D

I recently bought the Topdon 500.
worked fine identifying codes when my engine light came on.
gave me Nox sensor problem codes which I thought was the cause, but good to get them verified. Nox sensors Grrrrrr!

Read through the forum as it depends on which vehicle you have, Icarsoft isn't very good for W213
