Car has recently been serviced, one of the advisories was the engine mount(s) needed doing.

Last night as I left work, I gave it the beans from a standstill, and heard an almighty clunk. Now the car is vibrating like a London Taxi. Literally shaking itself to bits.

If I rev it gently, it goes away.

Am I right in assuming the aforementioned engine mount or mounts has gone?

(Dropped the car off this morning for the advisories to be repaired anyhow, but now I'm dreading a 2000k repair bill)

In the olden days replacing an engine mount was easy, we'd support the sump with a hydraulic jack at the correct height to relieve the pressure of the mount, then replace it with the engine in-situ. But in those days there were acres of space around the engine inside the engine bay... not sure if this is as easy to do these days.

Also, there were typically two mounts on each side of the engine, and one at the rear of the engine above where the clutch/TC is - that one was a b***h to replace in-situ.... but still doable.

Without seeing the car its hard to fully diagnose but you've done the right thing taking the car to the garage right away.

Worn engine mounts are typically noticed by slight vibrations in the cabin, particularly when at a standstill. It's unlikely to have caused excessive damage to the drivetrain if you've taken the car straight there and should only require a new engine mount to fix the issue.

Let us know how you get on?

Will do

So the conclusion is likely to be the mount? And not something more serious?

My money is on the engine mounts (there were two in my previous E) as symptomatically, that's what it sounds like (especially as there is an advisory on them).

Is your car roughly a 2010 vintage?

I think my E was 10 and were done anyway whilst I was having headers fitted as they are apparently more hassle once the headers are in. Saying that, they were shot anyway so didn't have long for this world anyway.
