Out of curiosity: is there a rattle and squeak free car in existence at 100k miles / 10 years + age?

I still say I'm right....! The switch won't go any further . The air direction is changed by the other rotary controller.... which also has a screen de mist icon you can't select!

My 2012 958 Cayenne was absolutely rock solid at 10 years and 80k , even the V6 Audi diesel was pretty refined and quiet.

My 2020 9Y0 Cayenne has been built by accountants using Lego , it seems, as it is a bit of a disappointment in the build quality dept compared to the previous one.

I think you are too, the icon is very close to the IIII marker. Had it been a separate setting it would be further to the right.

That said I've never come across an interior rattle that I could not fix... once found!... so that would not it me off any one make or model of car.
Ah, so you had VW's before Alfa's turned your head ?

My 97,000 mile so poverty 14 years old( )212 is silent on the cabin as far as rattles go... and I'm also very impressed with the civility and low volume of the V6 derv under the bonnet....even quieter than my pretty quiet 2.0 d ALFA 4 pot.

My 212 is also 14 years old and is on around 91k miles. The cabin is still totally rattle-free.

One piece of trim below the Comand screen loosened off and started creaking a couple of years ago. It briefly drove me nuts but the guys and Comandonline nipped up a screw when they were doing some audio work on it and that was that.

Get yourself a TVR, plenty rattles & squeaks, but the good news is, that your bat ears will never hear them due to the noise from the exhaust  ;)

Lol.....not owned many........just one Mk2 GTI.....but I was an Audi and VW sales manager for about 17 years!

I have to say out now gone W212 350cdi at 108k was completely rattle free both inside and zero knocks from any suspension joints. A very well made car.
However having been in a few low mileage W213s, I can’t say the same

If minor squeaks and rattles are bothering you, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you don't have your radio turned up enough.

Allow me to make the following suggestion.
1) Pop this on the radio (other suitable audio material is available - you choose)
2) Turn it up sufficiently*
Problem solved.

The other problem it will solve, if you do this regularly enough, is that sensitive hearing of yours.

You're welcome. :)

My W210 was squeak and rattle free at nine years and 150k miles.
My W124 was older but also rattle free.

Regarding VW, my Corrado felt as good as new at 70k.

Fwiw I recalled you telling us that ^ previously, which is why (when you posted up your closing comment of #5) I couldn't resist trawling up that old advert. 😇

Hardly any cars creak unless something is wrong with the suspension or an older, small car that has next to no insulation.

Sports cars with low profile wheels bang around a lot especially if you are used to driving a relatively big car and get into the aforementioned type car.

My dad bought his first merc a brand new merc in 83, it was his last car as he passed about over 24 years ago.
It was built like a tank and had about 65k miles on the clock by the time dad passed away - the car floated
and was like riding in a plush lounge and the doors closed with a positive thud and the windows were
air operated dad told me and very quiet - my first merc in 2004 and 2003 C class petrol saloon
felt like a lego car compare to dads but served me well and was quite

Fair comment...I've decided just not to comment with or on anything controversial or respond to the near clueless anti EV comments from those that don't seem to have a clue about them.... anything else goes! To good a thread to boycott completely.😃

Good policy. Too easy to find yourself, shall we say, ‘strongly disagreeing’ with people who you’d probably get along with fine in real life.

AirPods are also a solution

I started off using them just for cleaner call quality but soon found myself addicted to them for podcasts and music.

But when you stop using them and just stream the sound through the car’s Bluetooth, suddenly all kinds of wind, tyre and road noise reappears

Can’t use them in France: they’re illegal
