Outside Temp Display

One thing that really frustrates me about my car is that I can't seem to have the outside temperature permanently displayed. According to the manual you can change the bottom km/h display to display temp but not in UK model?

I thought this strange as we don't use km/h in UK, as I mainly keep the display on the large digital speedo as in the picture, i dont need the speed in km/h !! as well as the main speedo, but to see the temp I need to press the arrows on the steering wheel.

Can anyone advise if this can be done?

EU regs say all cars must display speed both mph as and km/h all the time.

That said, I believe the UK settings you refer to can be changed by someone with expert knowledge of the MB Star machine, though I'm sure Mercedes will tell you it can't be done. Not sure if it's possible with all models.
There may be a couple of threads in the forums here. Search for UK display deletion or similar.

I totally agree the wording can be misinterpreted and as such is wrong.
Better explanation below.

Motor Vehicles (Con & Use) Regs, 1986 Reg 35

Motor Vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle was first used on or after 1.4.1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in BOTH miles per hour and kilometers per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch seperately.

This is correct.

My Renault can display either MPH, or KPH, but not both at the same time. And I believe it is road legal....

Alfie or Richard from www.comandonline.co.uk would know if your car can be reprogrammed using STAR to revert back to original EU spec - aka 'Delete UK Mode' - they did this on my 2006 C-Class some years ago - as well as a few other similar mods - and I find having the temp display indeed very useful.

Star is a dedicated Mercedes diagnostic and programming machine, not software as your reply tends to imply. Whilst all main dealers and most of the good MB independent garages have these expensive machines, only a few have the knowledge and expertise to change certain settings so you may have problems finding someone to carry out the modification.

As stated by markjay, comandonline are one such company, but I don't know if anyone else is capable of it.

Forgive my ignorance but this is my first Mercedes and I'm not up to speed with the diagnostic tools, although I have previously had various Audi's which I bought the programming tools for (VAGCOM) I'm assuming I can buy the interface and corresponding software for my Merc.
