I well I have to say I’m very happy owner, I had a bit of a panic when the stop start was yellow and a quick search on here led me to the secondary battery / module, I thought, hear we go more money, straight to my local independent because I realised I have a week left on my warranty, after a nice chat being told I have nothing to worry about and to just drive and enjoy it, apparently I’m not driving it enough is what he said, I really am a happy owner, I’m now at the point of handing the spare key to the wife to go ahead and scratch and dent every panel on it, I must add it’s not her driving it’s the supermarket 3 ton trolley that does it every time mmmm,
Sorry about my grammar.

Many parameters to be met before stop start works. Driving in c puts a bit of extra charge into the main battery, when you lift off the throttle and when braking . If using eco and gliding it won't put that little extra back in. Putting a smart charger onto the jump start pegs and giving it 24 hours charge won't hurt.

My aux battery pack give up the ghost in year 4/5 . Random message on the dash " auxiliary battery malfunction" every 15 seconds. I fitted a brand new main battery also . Stop start is green within 2 miles . Not that I use it !! I was gonna part ex and get an e300 , but I've bought a new set of wheels and gonna keep the glc for a couple of more years I think. Thanks for that information ^ I do drive in eco, my independent has two on the shelf, I tend to drive everywhere in eco and on cruise I don’t know if that makes a difference and I like the wheels 👍.

If using cruise ' glide mode ' won't work . It gets you a few free miles if going a long way, by disconnecting the transmission from the engine. Eco just tames the throttle response and turbo , it doesn't really get you any better mpg's . I do like sports + now and again. That v6 coupled with F1 gear changes is a bit of a thrill ride . Glad your liking the Glc . Built like tanks they are.

Slight different car of mine to yours but same system.

I got my car in 2016 - a brand new gle - I posted here about the possibility of cancelling the dreaded "stop/start," but you can't
It has it's uses.

My stop start worked for a year, I had to turn it off every time, Then about 18 months old it was intermittent - came live again after a 200/300 mile round trips and as time went it stopped working all together. That is until I had my main battery replaced last year or about 18 months ago - the dreaded
stop/start became active again. Now, you have to drive above 2 miles in the colder weather for it to activate.

So when I start my car up now, like when it was new, the first thing I usually do is turn off the stop/start.

That is music to my ears (built like tanks) I will try some driving without using cruise and I will have stop start turned off when I go for my next service, I don’t know who came up with such a stupid gadget but I hate it so right now it’s working in my favour.

Can you chose an independent drive mode , and adapt it to your own settings ??

I have independent, sports plus , sports,comfort ,eco .

independent you set it the way you want things to work. One of the choices is no stop start . So you basically select your drive mode , and stop start will not be active when you drive.

I have mine tuned to eco for engine , sports for steering , climate control to eco , and no stop start . Every time I lift off the throttle ' glide mode ' kicks in , saving fuel for a few hundred yards.

Omg I out playing tomorrow I did see the independent in the settings I will play around tomorrow thank you very much onefortheroad I really appreciate your help and wealth of knowledge.

You sound as though you are pleased with the car - What is the best part of it for you, and what [if anything] is bad about it?
Did you consider a GLA, rather than the GLC ? If so, what made you go for the GLC ?

Yes, I've got those but have never bothered other than change from comfort to sports and once or twice to slippery - it has everything you said ie individual - I will look into it when the weather is warmer. Thanks

Rainy, I came from a Nissan Navara trek-1 so I had the rear cover and some bells and whistles, but it was just completely useless, I only test drove the Glc and being slightly bigger than the Gla it suited my requirements better, I love the economy, the size of the rear with the seats down, with a bit of comfort and some gadgets thrown in, having cruise control at 20mph is a god send, holding speed down a hill with cruise god send, and Apple play is an added bonus, I have been driving a tractor for 3 years.
Please excuse my grammar.

I've got a GLC350d. It's the car I never wanted but now I don't know how to replace...
I bought it when the other half decided to come off her company car scheme, the idea being the extra cash and the reduced tax take would cover depreciation over the medium term. Six months later her company started dishing out Tesla's and paying for the charger to be installed. So it was all change. I was running a slilghtly older Audi S5 at the time, which I loved, but the Merc owed me more money, was newer and was the 'more sensible' car, so bye-bye Audi and hello GLC.

Nearly three years down the line I don't know what I'd replace it with, it's comfortable, quick enough for day-to-day, delivers 40+MPG on a run and 36 overall, not so big you can't park it anywhere but big enough for the family and carting luggage about. It joined us with 16k miles, it's done 55k now and, in that time and mileage, I've had one set of front pads, four tyres and a battery (fixed my start/stop which was intermittent at best). I sometimes don't use it for weeks on end and it always starts, never complains and just gets on with things. It's a good thing.

Only gripe was the last service quote from MB, Servive B6 (I think) £975 + extra for doing the (recommended) brake fluid. I bit the bullet and took it out of the dealer network and used Terry at Wayne Gates, who's a legend. They'll still honour the warranty (£40/month for peace of mind) but I've lost Mobilo cover which I fixed by adding roadside assistance to my insurance for £30/year.

I hope you enjoy yours.

Excellent summary Spin-bowler, I would never let a dealer do a service, when you find someone you can trust you have to stick to them, my Mobilo is about to expire I think they gave me a month when I brought Apple play from Mercedes, the coffee was shocking while I waited for a very hyped up boy to sort it out, then spend 15 minutes of my life trying to sell me a service plan I was never ever going to take out, I understand parts aren’t the cheapest but we choose to drive a nice car we have to pay for it, the second day I owned it I had it serviced, yes oil is expensive but my choice to use Mercedes oil, filters ect, I must say it’s great to hear people who own them are happy with them 👍.
