Recently had my 07 E320cdi on star after an engine diagnostic light came on and car went into limp home mode.

Light now turned off but I know that the problem may well resurface and I would like to preempt the problem by buying the part.

Am I better going to MB directly or is aftermarket worth it? I understand the one between the Cat and the turbo is a pig to access so don't particularly want to have to do the job twice.

can any one tell me:

Is the saving worth going to someone like Euro parts?
Will there be a zillion different part options and I'm likely to get the wrong one by buying outwith MB?
Does the part have to be tuned into the car or is it plug and play?
I tend to drive quite hard and up to now (5000 miles) have had a best fuel consumption at 36mpg (on readout) and worst at around 28mpg on a good run of at least 40 miles. This to me seems pretty poor when our Beemer tends to do over 50mpg. Might a new sensor show a marked improvement on the mpg?

Cheers!

Go to MB for he part. You will then get a 2 year warranty with the new part.

As mentioned above get 1 from merc as it will come with a 2 year part & labour warrenty.
It's common on the v6 320 Cdi.
Although diagnostics will say upstream O2 sensor & lead you to beleave there is more than 1, they do only have 1 fitted

Cheers all, good advice.

I noticed when looking over the indies shoulder (after I'd told him where to plug in Star) that the diagnostics had historically been reporting this same fault for a very long time.
I did not really want some local attempt which didn't imbue me with confidence so "broke down " nearer the local MB dealer through Mobilo.
I await the repair, and after waiting for a courtesy car went away with a nearly new E250 cdi. Will report on the outcome.

I had the orange engine light turned out to be the lambda sensor, my car a w204 cdi 2007 has only the one. Mercedes spare part £256 inc vat, same part from a general supplier Bosch £103 inc vat so if you use an indie check the Bosch part number on the Mercedes part and save a lot
