P0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected

I've got this fault code on my C180 (1998 model).

My first guess would be the coil-pack, but if this was failing wouldn't it cause a misfire on two cylinders as they share a coil?

What else could cause this fault?

Also, which is cylinder no1?

Cylinder No 1 is closest to the radiator. Your problem could be that the coil pack extension (the rubber bit under the pack) is time expired and requires a new one. Cost if I remember correctly is about a fiver.

Could also be sparkplugs or lead I find the plugs only do about half miles that Mercedes say.
