Hi There
It seems that I’m cursed by the dreaded P229 error code. EML came on a few months ago, NOx sensor was replaced by main dealer. A month later it came back on, main dealer said it wasn’t the sensor but the seal on the ad blue, replaced. Then on Monday it came back on after a trip on the motorway. So now I’m at a loss as to what else is causing the error.
It’s a 2015 C-Class 220d bluetec with 77k on the clock.

Find a remapper that does ad blue solutions, would be my next move . It could get very expensive and for what ?? A 1% drop in nox emissions.

Thanks for the advice, would a remap on the ad blue damage the car ?
Also, does this affect the MOT?

Doesn't affect the MOT which is nice, but make sure it is done properly by a reputable mapping company, not a guy off face book.

Worth doing if you are having problems.

No its simply deleted from the ECU. , but as mentioned pay a recognised provider. Especially if you have a regenerative dpf.

There are two NOx sensors, one before the SCR catalyst and one after. This code refers to the one after. Which sensor was replaced the first time?

The second sensor monitors the performance of the adblue injecor and SCR catalyst. I would also pull out the adblue injector and make sure the hole isn’t blocked with white crystals

What are the issues with a regenerative DPF, do all diesels not regen?

Cars that use ad blue on early software deletes the dpf didn't see ad blue and wouldn't re gen. Modern ad blue delete software has been rewritten to combat this . Some early dpf's were just catalytic soot catchers , they didn't burn off soot at something like 2000 degrees like modern euro 6 engines do.

How modern is the Modern ad blue delete software?
I’m hoping that’s what the remapping guys are using today !?

2024 now . Ad blue was around in 2015. . Id imagine your car is euro 5 . So won't be an issue.

Adblue delete done today, apparently I need to disconnect the adblue ecu within the next few days. Out driving tonight and the stop/start lights up then goes off after a couple of minutes, no amber or green symbol and the deactivate/activate switch light goes out as well. So basically disabled and unable to turn back on. Is this a symptom of the delete?

Waiting for the tuner to get back to me

Wouldn't think so ,stop start and ad blue are not really related, unless he deleted it also ?? . I'm shocked he didn't disconnect the ECU for ad blue though.

Symptom of a dying battery, more likely.
Battery is fine, replaced recently. Issue only started yesterday after adblue delete. When the symbol turns green and you come to a stop light goes out on dash and the on/off button and engine's doesn’t cut out

Why does the ECU need disconnecting?

Why does the ECU need disconnecting?

You basically telling the delete and the engine ECU it doesn't exist , some deletes you can leave it some you can't.

Be careful if the car ever goes back to a dealer or independent garage and it needs a software update. It will delete any Ad Blue map that has been added.

The auxiliary battery could be getting weak, if the main battery is ok.
