The love affair had to come to an end. The kids are all grown up, no more trips up and down the motorway dropping off and collecting them. Finally found a job locally so no more weekly trips down to London. I have been driving W124’s for the last 10 years. I will now be on the lookout for a convertible if I can convince my better half, but only if I can sell the two that I have
I have two W124 E300 D Estates both in silver, a ‘Nancy’ (289k) and ‘Mandy’(270k) registered.
I also have a W210 E300 Turbo Diesel, which I am now driving, yes it is also in silver.
Had been driving ‘Nancy’ while ‘Mandy’ was just resting, she was turned over weekly and all was well.
‘Nancy’ started to take her time starting in the mornings, one glow plug was not getting hot. But she would always start. Recently as the weather got colder and colder it got more and more difficult for her to get going in the morning. Decided that it was time to replace all six of the glow plugs so off to the local garage she went. The bad news was that while four of the glow plugs came out two did not and since I had a total of three silver Mercedes parked at home it was time to get finally let some of them go.
The engines are as strong as the day they were cast. They have never let me down.
The body work is not brilliant, rust on the wings, but the mechanics are all sound. The interiors are good, except the driver’s seat, the normal problem with wear on the bolster. Far too good to be scrapped, please assume that they are non-runners. Any reasonable offer considered. If they can’t be sold as complete then I may consider breaking them up so if anyone is after any particular parts then do get in touch but I will leave it for a while as I would like to sell them complete.
