My wife has bought a new to us secondhand VW Golf which unlike her previous car does not have parking sensors. Do you have anything you can recommend? Thanks.

Never used 'after market' sensors but apparently the one's from halfords aren't too bad but can look at little cumbersome.

I agree the steelmate rear sensors are good, I fitted them to my w211 with the rear display and am very happy.

Cobra - it's now what most car manufacturers re-package and sell as their own retro-fit kits

COBRA A0158 PARKMASTER 4 EYE PARKING REVERSING SENSORS | eBay

Cobra also sell a flush fit version and the finish can be superb!

Depending on what year Golf is & stereo - you can have rear sensor with the display come up on the headunit , as if it was a factory install.

This would be one of the more expensive options from what everybody has mentioned above .

Are you fitting them yourself ..?

Majority of the aftermarket fitted would be something like

Steel mates or Parksafe are extremely good & reliable & you have add-on options like rear display ( where you can add a slim L.e.d display too ).

Approx fitted £200

i have some cheap ebay ones which i paid £16 for on my dads zafira and in the last 3 years of having them on the car we have had no issues.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone it's really appreciated. I will need a fitter, getting too old to crawl around under a car these days.

The bumper is really easy to take off and in the inside of the bumper are some markings of were the sensors are meant to sit. :thumb:

Word of warning if you get someone to fit them make sure they take the bumper off and put them in the right place, i had someone come round and fit them (i saw advert on computer) they mucked up my c class estate bumper by putting them too low, they came back about 4 times to sort it out but was never right any slope and they would go off. If you are getting them fitted take the car to the garage so you have somewhere to go back to if you have trouble. But it only drove me mad till i sold the car !!!

SE Autoworks in Surrey retrofit genuine parking sensor kit (as in Seat, Audi and VW units) which are just audible warning.

they fitted some to an Altea before - excellent job and come colour coded to the bodywork inc in the price.

@ merc estate - this was also my concern with mobile fitters, totally useless alignment that either means they go off all the time or not.

with retrofit items, a stencil plate is used and will make sure the cables are secured inside the bumper properly and the holes are in the correct place.

I want to get some Cobra Flush fit sensors fitted, can anyone recommend anyone in the East London / Essex Area?
