Anyone recommend an aftermarket kit?

I really miss the parktonic on my old E class. Reversing the CLK is now driving me nuts!.

I'd prefer a system that doesn't involve drilling holes in the rear bumper....

I've been meaning to try this system. Electromagnetic so no drilling involved.

Seems like a good price too.

Theres quite a few folks over on the Volvo forum fitting these as no drilling involved, hardest part seems to be removing the bumpers, I'm still trying to work out though are they wireless or would you still have to run a wire from the front unit through the bulkhead to the switch and would you have to run a wire from the rear unit the length of the car?

Surely the strip goes on back of bumper, wire to control box in boot then wired to your reversing lights?

You hit 'R' or reverse and it starts. Guess you place the buzzer where you can hear it better?

Quite correct I should have watched the installation video first :o Looks like the hardest part is actually removing the bumper then!

Depending on your bumper you may not have to remove it completely.

My wifes for example you could get in under the car and a large proportion of the bumper is visable.

When I fitted 'proper' drill in sensors to my ML, the bumper removal was actually almost the easiest part. Big truck like car and holding the bumper on are 4 weedy bolts.....

OK behind the bumper is a big iron beam :)

I didn't actualy take it off either.. took the bolts off and it slides a few inches before coming off runners. That maybe enough in your car to get the strip behind.

I have one of these fitted to my W203 estate.
The magnatised strip fits nicely behind the rear bumpers rub strip.

It does work fairly well, the only problem is false beeps when reversing in the rain. Other than that it works OK.

Not quite as good as the more traditional sensor type but no drilling and easy to fit. (must be easy I did mine myself).

Im going to try one of these on the widebody as the bumper is off at the moment..

Let us know how you get on installing the system, and how it performs.

Signed up as trade and got the kit plus an extra antenna (SEC's have a metal girder behind it) for £59 all in... £20 off for entering my VAT number!

Happy days, my business is VAT registered.

if it works ill register as a trade installer too.. we fit a LOT of parking sensors here and they cost me £150 fitted... so if these work, ill fit them on every car that comes in without them.

Update:

They just emailed me saying I dont need the extra antenna as they all come with 2 now!! Saved another tenner..

The recommended installation height is 50cm, otherwise you can get false readings from the ground. This could be a problem with some estates that have low bumpers. The device's sensitivity can be adjusted, apparently.

I'v e just bought the rear kit (with vision display) off E bay for £55 +£2.50 postage from the same company, to fit on my W203 sports coupe.

Hopefully I can just take off the upper rear bumper modeling & fit without removing the whole bumper.

Any thoughts any one ?

It could be easyer to remove the bumper than just remove the pads .I have fitted Scorpion and 3rd Eye kits to many Es and it is possable to install the sensors with out removing the bumper .

Evening All,

My first post, so thanks for the help.

I was also looking at fitting the PD1 system to my CLK.

From all those that have fitted the system, was it easy once you have figured out how to remove the bumper and is it a decent bit of kit as I have seen the comments about the false readings when raining on this thread and else where.

I looked into the Meta Targa SR2 number plate mount system (also available from Parking Dynamics) and I was advised Halfords) there was a possibily of a malfunction message, I believe due to a voltage drop in the light bulbs as the system draws power from the same circuit. Was wondering if this has been a problem with the PD1 system and if so what the fix was.

Buccal was wondering if you ended up going with the PD1 system and if so do you have a W208 or W209, if a W208 was removing the bumper easy?

Thanks again for the help.

When I looked into this (a few years ago) I was advised by a friend who was an installer (up north, so he had no financial interest in selling me more expensive ones) that I shouldn't touch electromagnetic parking sensors with a bargepole. He claimed that they do not work well in bad weather, like rain and snow - which is just when you need them most. I would be very interested in hearing how they work from people who have fitted and use them first hand!

Great just yesterday I ordered two sets, one for my ML, and one for girlfriends C coupe. I now hope that the technology has moved on in the last few years, and the problems have been sorted.
