This and that.
Can somebody give me an idea of the (new) replacement cost of a patch cabinet?

It's about 7 feet tall, with glass doors front and back, cooling fans and about 200 ethernet socket things.

TIA

PJ

Can anybody give me a new price?

I don't want to buy one, I want to know what they cost.

PJ

Much appreciated, thanks.

We use misco, they cost from £700 and up (to about £1500/2000 for non-cooled units) , depending on what you're looking for. If you order enough, they also give quite a hefty discount (we're at 15% atm)

Cooled units easily cost over 15k.

Rough idea - 42U cabinet (1u=1.75inch) £600-800 as mentioned elsewhere - empty
24 port Patch panels - 30 quid each, probably about 10 of them so about 300 quid
Cable management rings, horizontal - about 10-20 quid each, at least 10 again, maybe more depending on layout
Switches to provisio the about, from 50 to 150 quid depending on speed and brand, more for gigabit, so say 1500 quid there
Fan tray - 200-400 quid

so 3000-4000 quid complete. If you want a proper quote we'll do a site visit...

I have designed a cooled unit for my freind and in total it cost £4,500. Obviously I got all the air-con stuff trade and we got an oversized cabinet ducted it and hey presto, works absolutely beautifully.
So good in fact his company want me to do another 20 of them for other offices of theirs worldwide.

I only charged a design fee but the fitting etc should be no more than £2k on top at the very worst.

We might be interested in one of those should you start selling!

My main problem is that the server room is located in a Grade 1 listed building - and the genius who installed the air-con linked every room together!

Hence, to cool the servers to the temperature I would like, I would force the rest of the building freeze!

I looked into getting a cooled server rack, and run the hot/cold water pipes through the (existing) holes in the walls which aren't all that big (I think 10/15cm at their smallest). The other option I had found was a "single-use" water system, once the water was too warm, it would just throw it away (there is a toilet right behind the server room)

Either way, the quotes we have so far for a chilled rack (excluding any fitting) are in the 5-digit range! Whats worse is that they don't need to cool THAT much! (8 dual processor, dual core intel apple-Xserves, 2 apple-xraids, and a few other odds and ends that are grossly under-utilised)
