Performance Increase

Hi,

New to this forum & this is my first post!

I'd like to know if anyone could kindly shed some light on engine performance chip uprates as a plug-in device? It's done via the car's OBD port i believe, & can be removed when not required.

The reason I ask is because I'd like to know if I can squeeze a bit of extra performance out of a Merc C220 CDi... It's a new car & i'll have it for a 6 month lease contract! I know that current power is 150 BHP & can be increased to 180 BHP - can anyone confirm this?

Any help or advice in this matter is greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :D

Welcome and yes that can be done by getting the ECU Re-maped!

i had the ecu remaped added 22bhp and 30ib torque
on CDI's its alot more they got alot more tuning potential than a petrol

I bought a psi powerbox for my C220 Sports Coupe from DieselChipTuning for £400 delivered and fitted it myself. It was very easy to fit as it comes with detailed instructions.
Since fitting it I've done over 10,000 rather fast miles in mine since it's been done and I've had no problems whatsoever. It has three power settings with the highest giving around 35bhp+ (so they claim). I'm very happy with mine, the car's definately faster with the powerbox fitted and I wouldn't be without it, the only thing I would say is that I've noticed a bit more turbo lag during town driving but it's not that bad.

It may not be as good as a proper remap but as least with with one of the psi powerboxes you can sell it on ebay when you change your car.

...I wonder what the difference is between your £400 one and those sold on say eBay for £100? I still intend to research these little gizmos in full detail (my car came with one but I have removed it in the interim).

I know there is R & D, marketing etc....but I cannot really visualise what sort of electronic componentry goes into to one to take it up to a total of anywhere near £400. Just my opinion!!!

You're probably right, but I bought mine after speaking to a bloke at work who has put powerboxes on his last three cars. He does serious mileage, (commutes from Lincoln to London) he's never had any problems and couldn't speak more highly of them.

The chances are that they do exactly the same thing and mine's causing just as much damage to my engine as any other tuning device - but all I can say is that mine is tunning much smoother and much faster than it did before I put it on.

That is being a tiny bit negative :) One would hope that these things work well within the safety factors and tolerances of the engine's design (so 35bhp yes, 100bhp noooo!), and that the actual risk of any damage is quite minimal...and that, as long as you are not planning on keeping the car for say 200k miles, you can simply remove the device and pass the car on to an unsuspecting buyer when you get tired of it!

thanks guys, just the information I was looking for!

it's on a 6 month contract to be delivered a couple of days before christmas! I guess I'll run it in over the holiday period then get the powerbox fitted a couple of weeks into the new year! mile allowance is 10,000 for the hire period & it would just be a case of taking it out & seeling it off once the car goes back to the lease company! :D

Thanks again!
