One of my cousins is staying this weekend with his wife and his 18yo twin boys, both car nuts. They were so looking forward to surprising me with the new car - a week old E220 CDI sports coupé with pano roof and AMG kit. That is, until he filled it with petrol two days ago!

He and the car were recovered to MB World, where the car is being repaired. He has a new C class estate courtesy car, and is the 25th car they've brought in this week with the same mistake!

So Jon, if you've signed up here and read this, well done! You knob jockey!

must be because these diesel engines are so quiet that owners fill up with petrol ;)

I wouldn't have taken it to Mercedes, I would have called a local garage, got them to drain it and replace the filter.
They will change everything, and I mean everything, they have said this is not necessary but they have to to keep the warranty.

I don't get why people go and phone the manufacturer, that is the last person you want to know imho.

I did it with our ML, Mercedes wanted it in and were going to charge £7000 to sort it out, however the guy on the phone said "You haven't given me your reg yet, call this number and see what they say." I did and 7 hours and £250 later I was back on the road.

Is this sort of thing not covered by Mobilo 'minor incidents'?

The AA would have sorted it on the spot. Would have taken no longer than two hours.

Put petrol in a diesel? | AA

Remember if it happens in the future to avoid the dealer unless you want to pay a lot.

He actually drove off, not realising his mistake. He drove about a mile before the car protested (at the mentality of diesel drivers!). Bearing in mind, the car is only a week old, he didn't think about the back street boys at the time. Knob jockey!!

Ouch thats not so good.....could have buggered the pump in that time, big bucks!
Mate of mine changed his RR Vogue from Petrol to Diesel and did the same thing, but realised the mistake at the fuel station, he literally drove it from the pump to the office parking bay....about 30 yards, he rang the dealer (the car was two weeks old) , they picked it up and in two weeks he had it back, along with a bill for £5300
He didn't mind too much as he still had his Bentley, DB7 or Morgan to choose from

How on earth can they justify that ?

That is what they wanted to charge, no drain plug on an ML so needed the tank replacing, plus the fuel lines, filters, pump etc.
As it was under warranty it was the only way they could do it all and keep the warranty in tact.

Aren't knob jockeys women in reality?

It depends who has a hand in it - in this case, my cousin (who I love dearly, even though he is £600 poorer today!).

Lol, my comment wasn't meant to be sexist - it was more a (filthy) reality and had no bearing on your situation other than you mentioned 'knob jockey'...

:ban:

How come Ford can solve this problem (and did so 3 years ago), but Mercedes fail to?

None taken, and my comment on "who has a hand in it" was a play on words!
