Vito 638 Banana Van
Hello all,

I've just acquired a low mileage (32K) 1998 Vito 2.0 petrol 'day van' and would like any advice about servicing.

I have always done my own oil, air filter, plugs and leads changes, but looking under the Vito bonnet, it looks like these are all hidden away somewhere out of sight.

Any advice about the feasbility of DIY servicing would be gratefully received.

Hi there Martin.
Impressively low mileage for a 1998, nice find you have there.
As your vehicle is that age, it is a 638.
I had a 638 myself a couple of years ago (albeit a Diesel version) & they drive very nicely & a great little van IMHO.
Their primary flaw is their susceptibility to the tin worm. It would be worthwhile checking the bodywork out thoroughly.
I do have a service manual (that covers the petrol version) that I no longer need & was intending to put on Evilbay, sounds like it may be just what you need.?

Thanks for the friendly reply :) The van is in remarkable condition, with only a small amount of cosmetic rust and good original paintwork. Underneath it is basically solid too, with perhaps a little area of rust at the front end of the offside sill - I'm getting my friendly local garage to sort that out for me.

I'd definitely be interested in the manual - how much do you want for it + postage to Lancashire?

Cheers!

Martin

Hi Martin,
Good to learn you got a good one. Get the garage to check the front subframe though, when I was looking at them I noticed a lot that had rotted through there (as they had not been undersealed there).
How does £ 12 posted sound.
If you send me your email address I could send you a picture if you're interested.

Hello again,

Sorry we seem to have our wires crossed - do you have a manual available for me to buy?

Many thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,
I do still have the manual for you, no problem.
The email is in my "sent items" folder on Windows mail. I assumed that you simply didn't want it, and so did nothing more. I will forward it again to you now, however if you do not get it again, perhaps you could message me on here your postal address.
I have been having problems with my BT broadband, but I would be surprised if it was effecting my emails.

Hiya Mark,

I got your email this morning and have sent a Paypal payment to the email address listed, plus a reply to your mail.

Many thanks for your patience - you do know computers and email weren't really invented as labour saving devices, don't you!!

All the best!

Martin

Hi Martin,
Thank you very much indeed.! (As I wrote originally- I would have been happy to have waited until you received & assessed the manual before payment).
I packed it up yesterday, and will post it off today 1st class.
Hope you find it useful, & good luck.

Another example of how superb this forum is. No fuss, no drama, just help and understanding.
