- E270CDI Avantgarde Station wagon, 380SL, ML420
....in Huntingdon, Cambs.
I was driving into town the other day from the west side of the A1 in our E270 station wagon, and happened to put my driver's side window down to let a bug out. I should point out that I have only 25% hearing from shooting since I was six years old, followed up by 33 years in the Army. However, even I could hear the clatter coming from the front RHS. I drove straight to Star Autos in Huntingdon - a small-scale operation that has recently got going. Stewart there instantly diagnosed a loose front wheel disk backing plate, and I arranged to take the car back to him when he had it to hand.
Bring it back tomorrow, he said.
Next morning at around 9 o/c I left the car with him, thinking that it would be a couple of days before I fetched it, and wondering if the weather was going to hold so's I put put the roof down on our old 380SL.
He called me back around 2pm and told me that I could go collect it.
A week later to the day, after 133,000 miles, a front strut spring let go.
Same deal - left the car in the morning, it was ready in the afternoon. Of course, it was necessary to fit a pair, but the cost, of genuine MP OE parts and fitting, was a tad over £220.
Thanks, Stewart, for great service.
