Playing music through USB port - iPhone

Hi, firstly new to the forum. Just bought a 62 plate W204 C220. It has a USB port but when I connect it to my iPhone 7 Plus I get a message saying “USB Device Unreadable”. Is there a solution to this or anyway to get my phone working so that I could play music through it and get album art. Currently it only lets me charge my phon and play music through Bluetooth, where as on the bmw I had previously, usb through the idrive would connect to my phone without any issues.

One more thing, is it worth upgrading the speakers on it ? I believe it’s just a standard set up and it sounds ok but would prefer something more powerful.

I think the USB will only play a memory stick, I leave an ipod attached to it and play over bluetooth. It needs be a mass storage device, whatever that is? No album artwork but track list and control of the music from the car. Works ok but as you say my previous bmw would play nicely with my phone.

You will only be able access photos via USB on an iphone.
