I hope i will be able to put this correctly - Between the engine and manifold, there are the injector nozzles and rubber pipes adjoining the nozzles in a loop form, which has diesel going through them, with a blocker at the end nozzle.Even though they are not leaking, would it be advisable to change these pipes, is it possible for the pipes to degrade and not show any signs of leakage.(Vehicle done 110k miles 1988 model)
If it is advisable to change these pipes, then does it make a diference if one is longer than the other??, or would it be better to keep them as short as possible, for better flow of diesel???

Please excuse my very little knowledge, and if possible kindly advise what is the best thing to do, thanks.

Hi

These are weep pipes, they do deteriorate through time but if they are not leaking then you should have no problem. When they start to leak you will smell diesel from under the bonnet. My wifes 124 300D has leaked a couple of times but i just renewed the pipe that leaked and sure enough the same one leaked again together with the stopper.

Just keep an eye on them and keep a bit of pipe in the glove box along with a stanley knife for removing the old one and you could replace one easily enough. Best to keep a stopper or a 4" nail for blanking a piece of pipe.

Hi 230K
Thanks for the reply, although when i checked the website at around 12.30pm, there was no reply, so went to the stealers and bought the pipe and blanker,i must say the quality is much better than others i have seen, including the one in the car.
Did you use the stealers one?

Hi

No i did not use the stealers weep off pipe and i would say that is why it leaked again, the last blanking plug that leaked i got from a diesel specialist and hopefully will last a while, only good thing is these bits are only pence.

Good luck

Hi again,
Thought ill share this with you, I was speaking to a friends friend who had a 300d for several years, he mentioned the same problem about the pipes, every 8 - 10 months he would have to replace them, finally someone suggested to get the stealers, did not have to change again untill he sold it, about 4 yrs later. - Try them, i would suggest get them when you are free and keep them, including the blocker(they sell them @ .,appx.£6.70/ mtr + vat. In my 1988 model i needed more than a meter and the blocker is about £2.40 + vat) - Not cheap, but if they last long, its worth spending that £10 - £11.
