Hi all, I'm wondering if I should be getting better mpg from a 2002 E200 kompressor (S210). Driving gently on A and B roads produces mid 20s, the best so far on a long run with the car empty is about 33. The car warms up very quickly, but doesn't seem to get much above 80 degrees. Do I need a new thermostat? Any other thoughts appreciated...

Although I have no experience of your particular car my 1999 focus 1.8 used to average about 36 so your figures seem ok to me. Looking at the MB site the combined figure for a 2005 E200 auto is 32.5.

Yep thats about right Urban: low twenties. A&B roads: mid high twenties. Motorway: low thirties.

The above assumes the car is an auto so its a big heavy car with a small engine and slush box so economy will never be good (nice car all the same)

If its a manual add 2-3 mpg to the above :thumb:

I have an E230 and average 25mpg if that helps. Will do 22 around town and 40 on a long run. Hope that helps.

Getting 16-17mpg on a good day :D

Seems you would be better off with a E230.To get 40MPG from E230 is free petrol as the EC Combined (mpg)37.7 is basically saying this is the max you could possibly get .

Auto
EC Combined (mpg)32.8
Extra Urban (mpg)42.2
Urban (mpg)23.7

6 speed
EC Combined (mpg)31
Extra Urban (mpg)41.5
Urban (mpg)21.9

E230
EC Combined (mpg)37.7
EC Extra Urban (mpg)46.3
EC Urban (mpg)25

Thanks everyone for your thoughts so far, any ideas as to whether the engine should be running a bit hotter?
