Porsche hatchback!

Classic line, but not classic lines..

our guess is that in line with Porsche’s er, relaxed approach to styling,

Hardly been pushing the boat out have they, no wonder they make so much money per car sold.

Anyone notice the Toureg typo?

Presumably they'll take Jag's approach to platorm sharing, and opt for 4WD only. Of course Jag finally relented and offered FWD and four-pots.

I can't imagine Porsche will offer a hatch - not yet anyway - as to me it seems further away from brand values than a diesel, but who would have expected a Porsche SUV 10 years ago.

Given the not-officially-recognised similarities between the VW R36 and Porsche 3.6 V6 engines, and the fact that the R36 will inevitabley offer a 4WD option, then it seems likely it will be a doddle to engineer - new front wings and headlights ought to do it!!

The Barry Brigade will be wetting themselves over this

Not forgetting a £10K price hike of course.

And a two-hundred page hardback sales brochure, with arty photos and fancy folds-outs, which will be handed out to those spotty teenagers and professional brochure traders who're cheeky enough to ask.

Hatchback Porsche? Sort of reminds me of the Mk1 Seat Ibiza System Porsche!!

I had a Vauxhall Nova 1.3SR for my first car. I remember another lad from school rocked up beside me as a passenger in his mates System Porsche, and said he'd "blow me away 'cos Porsches are faster than Vauxhalls" :D

Poke fun all we like but this kind of marketing does work. Look at the new C class with the so-called "Sport" model. In fact it offers absolutely no improvement in performance at all over the Elegance model. But it sells.

Bigger wheels and almost no tyres at all is what many seem to want. A Golf labelled as a Porsche should suit them down to the ground.

And then what? A Ferrari/Fiat Bravo?

Not such a good analogy Hawk as the Sport version C class will tear the pants off an Elegance in the twisty stuff due to more sporty setup and of course those wheels and tyres whereas the Porsche Golf really is just marketing and a bit of styling with a heafty price tag for the badge snobs.

The Fiat versions are generally Abarth branded, but there have been Ferrari versions of Lancia's, such as Thema 8.32. a proper Ferrari engine.
