Hi guys, going to see and potentially buy a 2001 230k elegance convertible in black with black leathers today. Has amg kit, wheels etc. 134k with history. What do i need to look out for and check? Is mileage too high?

Any advice appreciated.

Regards
Sej

Before l did anything l would do a full hpi check on the car, costs about 20pounds but will give you all info including whether milage etc is correct. Milage is about 11k a year, so suppose would be considered average for year. There must be more W208s out there with less milage. I don't know if this model is prone to rust as were the W210s. Good luck, but don't rush in to buy the first one you view.

Hi the mileage is about average for the year & apart from the above advice just make sure the car has full service history(preferably mb) & the autobox fluid/filter has been changed about every 40k miles.Check carefully for rust around all 4 arches & around the bootlock(w208's are prone to rust in these areas).Make sure the roof opens/closes without juddering/delay9takes about 20 seconds),good luck, there are plenty of good ones about:)

Car has history mainly from dealer and the last few from specialists. It appears to be in really good condition. Also it is in the colour combination i want and has the amg kit which im finding quite difficult to find. The only thing that disappointed me is the fact that its in elegance trim and not avantgarde.

All sounds good, the Elegance is rarer but has a softer suspension setup than avantgarde or sport variants, why not arrange a test drive to see if you like it?

i've posted a link under "favourites" for vin check hope it'd be helpful

if it was properly serviced and attended mileage doesnt matter, afterall its a benz! best advice is to go check it out urself mate

Hi,
I would,nt be to concerned about the mileage, though i would check the engine carefully for oil leaks from the head gasket, mainly from the front of the engine, as these engines were known for it once the mileage had crept up, and whether there is any emulsion in the header tank or in the dipstick tube. Other than that make sure the tyres are wearing evenly especially the front ones and that there is no rust ready to break out, though the convertible seemed less prone to it than the coupe version, possibly.
The 208 is essentially a 202 c class so anything that applies to them should be applicable.

have a close inspection of the roof handle both inside and out looking for any bodged repairs. They have a habit of letting go and cost £££££££ to fix
