I have a 2002 e320 cdi and want to fit an aftermarket cd/radio, what does the grey wire do in the four pin plug of the cars power plug

I guess an S210 model, a 2002 could be a W211 but if it is an estate as in your profile, then I guess an S210.

The grey wire is the diagnosis line to the diagnosis socket.

Don't you have the yellow/black mute wire? It should be 5 wires in that case on the A connector block.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me , mine is w210 e320 diesel, I have four wires in my block, blue/white(remote system), red/white(main power),
brown(earth/ground), I just can't find out what the grey wire does, is it live when the ignition is on? or can I get key/access power from cig lighter?
sorry to sound dumb but I can't get a workshop manual for the w210, got one for a w211 but wiring seems different.

My guess is it’s sidelights.
To dim the display when you turn lights on.

Thanks Ted, so i'll get my key/access live feed from the cig lighter for my aftermarket radio, I was hoping that's what the grey wire did so I wouldn't have take half the dash out.

A MY 2002 car gives information about lights, speed and ignition via CAN. The green wire is a K-line diagnosis wire, the diagnosis tool accesses the head unit via this wire. No use with the new, after market radio.
