Problems with c240 sports mode

Hi i have just purchased a 1999 c240 sport (pre tip) and am having with the s setting on the auto box as it does not change up well. its ok on the w setting.

Any idears?

Does it want to hold on to lower gears and over rev instead of changing up? Either way I would get your Air Mass Sensor (MAS or also known as MAF) checked, this can cause all sorts of weird symptoms. If that's not the issue you may have to get the car hooked up to a Star Diagnose and have some fault codes read.
