i think my pump has failed on my 1999 w208 clk as central locking is not working , if i get one from ebay is it just plug and play i have read it needs recoding but why? and if it does whats a nerc grge going to charge to recode

I've got the same problem, i'm going to a local dealer who deals with mercedes & bmw repairs. He's charging me £50 to fit the part which i'll supply, so I wouldn't go to mercedes they will charge a bomb to replace the part or to even fit it I would think. Try local dealers or other garages. Shop around and see who fits and recodes it cheaper.
The recoding bit is so everything works with the pump (interior lights, locks, boot unlock\lock etc)

You will probably get away with just plugging it in... if there are any issues after then you may need to get it plugged into star but id suck it and see.
all other models are just plug and play.

The EPC does specifically say that it needs recoding, but there have been quite a few people quoting from experience say it is just plug and play. Though i have heard that there could be issues whether the Orthopedic seats will work but that seems to be only on the later cars.
As Jay says fit it and try it.
