Puzzled by scratches around door lock

Hi All
I have just been to look at a 55 plate 220cdi and was puzzled to find lots and lots of light scratches around the drivers door lock.

I looks like a key fob has been swinging and scratching the paintwork - all very light but very visible.

The key fob works so I am wondering what caused the scratches.

Could it be the fob didnt work and was eventually replaced?

Any ideas?

I like the car a lot but this puzzles (and slightly concerns) me.

Also can these be easily fixed/removed? Or are we talking ££££s?

Many Thanks

Dave

previous woman owner with rings and bracelets?

I imagine that a machine polisher would remove the worse of the marks. But then you'd have a very shinny door compared to the rest of the bodyside, so you'd end ultimately having the whole car detailed. It all depends how fussy you are really.

Women's fingernails !!

Mine had very similar scratches all round the drivers door handle and lock. They came out with light rubbing compound and a repolish.

The worst marks were all round the perimeter of the boot lid. Turns out the previous "female" driver was a golfer but obviously not strong enough to lift the clubs in without catching the bodywork. Bit more work to sort these out but now looks fine.

Funny how advertisers always boast if the vehicle was owned by a woman !

I would view this point as a disadvantage since women often have less mechanical knowledge than men and treat cars with less mechanical sympathy than their counterparts .

Ducks for cover now .

Thanks guys - that makes sense thinking about it - cheers :thumb:

...and doctors always get a mention...why? Are they better drivers than the rest of us?

I'm just wondering if there is any black areas around your door lock.

Maybe someone used the peanut butter trick and the scratches are from squirrels. :D

Alarm fob on ignition and house keys, when zapped, holding keys in hand and opening door. Other hand used for handbag, shopping, putting make-up on, on phone, and carrying laptop. (all at the same time, lol). Now Seriously ducking for cover. !!!!;)

If you have a wife that drives one of your Mercs, you'll surely have these tiny scratches

Nothing to do with the locking/unlocking as the remote does that..
More the opening of the door with the fingernails leaving shallow scratches...!!
