Hi im a new member and dont really know alot about cars and i need help, basiclly i need to get a new engine for my c220 (1994).
I found a c43 engine but i dont want to look like an idiot when contacting them.

so my question is, is it possible to put an engine from a c43 amg in to a c220

also, if yes are there any further problems i will face. like will i have to change any other things on the car...

I know i sound like an idiot already but if anyone can help me PLEASEEE!!!

The C43 engine would probably go into a facelift W202 but into a pre-facelift would be tricky due to wiring harness/EIS/canbus/instrument cluster and several other items that got changed in 1997

You might be better off looking for a pre-97 C280 or C36 engine, maybe E280/E320.

thanks for the info, but if i were to have a c43 engine put in and i was not going to pay for the mechanic or electricians labour could you possibly give me an estimate of how much it would cost me for any othe parts required..

Will you also be modifying the suspension and brakes to match the heavier and much more powerful engine? If the answer is 'No', then good luck trying to insure it!

The C43 engine weighs less than the I6 C280 engine, however the advice is still sound :)

So where are we?

In addition to the engine, you'll probably need transmission (3k?), airflow and MAS parts (1k?), wiring (budget for about £200-300 maybe), rear differential (£500?), shocks/springs (£500?), discs/calipers(£500?). Your existing instrument cluster will need to be swapped for a facelift item, but it won't work because your car is pre-facelift. It might be possible to add all the sensors and parts for this but it'd be tricky. You'd still be talking about £6-7k for the other parts in addition to the price of the engine.

Retrofitting the C43 engine into a facelift w202 would probably be a lot easier.

How much is a cheap C43 these days? Well under £15k I think ;)

There's 4 under 11K on Autotrader now!!

Engine swaps always end in tears  Nearly spent a fortune putting a VR6 engine in a MK2 Golf GTi, glad I didnt now as the value of the car after never approaches the actual cost of the conversion.

IMO save your money and buy a real C43 :bannana:

Got to agree with the others - not financially or otherwise worth it.

In addition to Shude's list of parts, I would add full exhaust system (including cats), ECUs and no doubt hundreds of other parts costing ££££s!

And it still wont have AMG wheels/bodykit/interior etc etc.

Definately one to be missed IMHO! ;)

couldnt you have your engine bored out to say 2.3L and turbo charge it?might work out cheaper.

It'd still be cheaper overall to upgrade to a C230K/C280 or a C36 IMHO!

Even without other considerations such as running costs, insurance/reliability issues etc. ;)

Will :)
