Quicky

One curious thing I have noticed is that you say when you call the number there is no answer.
Assuming there was no answer the night of the mystery dialler why did the telephone record 25s.
i.e. It must have been answered unless it records total time from first ring which is unusual.
Personally I think that there is a perfectly simple explanation to this riddle though we don't know what it is yet and is probably related to some auto-dialling feature.
I wouldn't get too paranoid and start changing locks etc.

Spooky!

Some call duration timers work from when the call is put through ie starts ringing, so it could be that it was just ringing for 25 sec before the call was cancelled.

I think Sparkyposts' idea is a good'un - if it is some kind of regular update thing then it should be somewhere in your previous bills. No?

I've just seen this post and had a good read through . . certainly seems odd . .

someone potentially breaking in to make an 0800 call does not seem logical

more likely it is some sort of autodial?

I don't know anything about these phones, just throwing up ideas . .
If the number has not been dialled before and now it does it from (what we believe was a locked building) possibly there has been a recent change to the settings on the phone by someone, which has triggered the phone to dial out at a specified time?

My home alarm keeps an event log, if the alarm at your dad place of work does the same you should be able to check when and who (if people have indivual codes) entered the building.

did you manage to get to the bottom of this Howard?

Not yet...

Right gang ...

Just to resurrect this thread from ages past ...

I had a call out of the blue tonight from a chap who this has just happened to ( last night , the 20th ) ....

He doesn't have an Amstrad phone , and yet at 3.04am this number was dialled from his phone ...

It's in a private house , no one else has access ...

He Googled the number and the only hit was for this thread !! , he then looked at the Teddington Lock website and gave me a call ...

I told him that i never got to the bottom of it , but if i found out anything else i would let him know ....

Graeme , i know you said your BIL was on it, did he have any joy ? could you see if you could ask him to look again ...

Very strange ....

Hi Howard,

This is getting spookier and spookier....

This chap who called you - is he with BT? are you with BT? are you in the same vicinity/exchange?

Did this number just appear on his dialled numbers?

BT or someone needs to be informed about this. I would say you need to check what is common.

Watching eagerly...

rgds
Was!

Yes , both with BT ...

When we called the number last year it just rang and rang ....

If you call the number now, it just says ' This service is not available ' ..

The chap just found it in his dialled numbers on his phone , it was the last made call ...

I've no idea who the chap who phoned me is , or where he's from , he found my contact info in the thread ....

Strange how both are in the middle of the night , from secure places , lasting exactly 25 seconds ....

Howard,

Have you not contacted the police re this?

A scenes of crime officer (soco) at the time could have helped eliminate many possibles from the mystery surrounding this subject. - They at the minimum would have searched for fresh fingerprints on the phone, (or any other smooth surface).

They would then take your fingerprints, and whoever else uses the office and eliminate you all- Should there be fingerprints that cannot be accounted for, they would send this off to be analysed against a huge fingerprint/DNA databse.

If somthing untoward has occured, and someone has broken in etc, then it is possible that the suspect could be known to police, and previously arrested for similar style crimes.

Although, in 5 pages of text, it still doesnt appear to be clear what crime would have taken place.

Still, for peace of mind, it would have been a good idea to have contacted police at the time - If you havent.

Also, a crime prevention officers services could have been offered to you (free of charge. You may also request for this at any time). They are experts in the field of crime prevention, and anaylysing properties for their weaknesses and vunerabilities.

In turn they could offer you a number of devices and suggestions that you could install to improve the security of your home, office etc.

You would be surprised, its often the very small things that attract criminals in the first place.

Excuse the rant style post, that was not my intention.

Good morning,

MV8.
