Those cars look max value 150-200K, nowhere near the figure quoted. Fair play to him, if he is earning it he can spend it how he likes - but someone should suggest a better pad than the housing association flat he currently has!

Looking at the pictures, not entirely sure why an insurance company would be writing the two cars off either? They don't look that damaged.

Sorry, just remembered i was reading a daily mail story - there won't be an awful lot of fact involved!
 
Classic case thats adds fuel to my campaign for a total overhaul of the driving licence system in thus country.

It sounds as though the talent ran out before the money, I suspect there's a lot of that around with 20 somethings bombing around in big fast V8's with very little driving experience thinking of themselves as 'driving gods'.

Out of interest, what would you have done at say 22 and were in a position to own a fast v8? Would you not own it due to your age or lack of experience? Would you put yourself through advanced driving tuition? Would you own it and not stretch the cars capabilities?

To answer your questions:
1)Of course not, I would have owned one and indeed did. I was fortunate enough to drive some very fast boats and some rather interesting military vehicles too. I also knew where my limitations lay and didn't take liberties in crowded public areas as seems to be the way these days.
2)I did, in fact I had to for my job.
3)I suspect the owner/hirer/driver has their capabilities stretched long before those of the car.
 
I don't think anyone here has an issue with him owning expensive cars.

It is how he treats them that's the issue.

That's fair enough, must have been nice to of been that fortunate. I had a 1.2 Clio at 22! So with your fast v8 at a young age, you may have seen yourself as a bit of a driving God back in the day too...!?

Unfortunately no, I wasn't good enough for that, I was always aware that the car was far more capable than I! My fortunate circumstances were more to do with my job than my spending power. :o
 
Does being older make you a better driver of a supercar?
I know people my age (40+) who've had nothing more than a basic 1.6 focus or similar.
That rich young man at the age of 22 could have 5 years driving experience of high powered cars?

You can drive like a d1ck at any age and also be inexperienced at any age.
 
Fortunately for me, I have always been a better driver than anybody else, and am surprised that anybody else except me is allowed to drive on the roads. lol. Hopefully they will make the test harder for others, then I can have the roads to myself.

The issue to me is not how he spends his money or how much he earns: good luck to him. However, irresponsible driving, especially of cars as powerful as these, is a menace to innocent road users and pedestrians alike.
