I made the mistake of going over Marlow Bridge. I made it through the entrance, but hit the poxy width limiters on the way out. The car lurched and I was sure I'd pierced a door skin

I also forgot these cars are built like the proverbial 'Tank'.....

Pic of damage below. What's chances of me pulling this out (without the use of an 80T hydraulic press)? Its only gone in about 5mm, but its a very solid part of the door. 20mm armour I think!

If I'd been in my wifes Toyota, it would have made a big dent and gouge (or hole)..... Buth then, I'd probably not have hit the restrictor in the first place

On the published width, only two and a half inches to spare. Note to self: Don't try to take the ML through there - it's only a tiny bit narrower...

Hope it comes out OK, but you'll still have the paintwork damage. Best get a pro to do it, I'd think.

Never again! I saw a Range Rover go through, but he / she is probably local and had practice. Or maybe stockbroker who spends £1K a year on paint!

With paint on the trim and a couple of minor scratches elsewhere, I've been quoted £600. Thats about 20% the value of the car. So will give it a go at pulling and touch in, or replace the trim (if one pops up on Ebay). Just wondered if anyone had experience of pulling these cars out? I've done it by hand on Nissan and Rover in the past, but they are lik pepsi cans in comparison.

There is probably a 10kg H beam behind that trim on these.....

I see no dent....

(But if you can see one, think of the issue as being two parts:

Dentmaster repair, which is a form of magic; and

the paintwork repair, which any hamfisted amateur can attempt.)

Dentmaster. Thanks! Have emailed and will call them.

I've always driven Saabs until this Merc, and never hit anything hard enough to dent one of those either (also Tank-ish).

The paint. Yes I fit squarely in the 'ham-fisted amatuer' bracket with that :) 🫡

Dentmaster will typically give a quote if you can provide them with a couple of photos of the damage, as well as an understanding of the size of the dent.

Once the dent is out, a good clean and polish usually hides the damage at that level (the white and black marks in your photo), unless the scratch has gone through to the metal.

I should add, in best BBC accent, "other local dent repair specialists are available." A quick google of dent repairs for your county will give you a few names.

Is that a removable moulding where the scratches are , or actually part of the door skin ?

VW should have hired Mr Sacco do do some panels for their doors .
