help,
i noticed a small oil leakfrom my 1977 350SL and decided to hava quick look as to where it might be coming from. Panic! pulled the bonnet release and nothing happened. any one got any ideas how I open the bonnet?

Assuming that the cable is still connected, have an assistant press down on the bonnet while you operate the release lever.

Ian thanks for the help tried you suggestion last night but it failed. I ended up crawling under the car and diconnecting the linkage from behind the grill I could then open the bonnet. I tried to adjust the cable but its now on maximum and still doesnt work. cable has obviuosly stretched so its time for a new one. Know wher i can find one.

if you look below the catch there is a small cover over the release mechanism, remove this and then you will find the adjuster,
Mine is right on the end of its limit. so Ive got know option but to change it.
e-bay here I come!

Got the bonnet open with the two person method luckily and found the adjusting screw which still had about 10mm of adjustment left on it. Took it down to 5mm and the release is now working great.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

lucky you glad you got it open. I am still searching for a new cable

thanks for the part number, I'll get onto my local dealer

Make sure he references the part to your Vin number. The above number was gotten from my vin and the part may be different.
