Can anyone recommend someone to replace the windows in the hood please? Scoltand preferably, but can tie in with a trip down south.

There are several threads on this that you may be able to find by using the search. All 'down south' though ... one recommended company in Chessington, another near Woking I think.

EDZ649. Like your SL600. What are these like on service costs & fuel consumption best, worst, average?? I may have a chance of an SL60 next year, but would consider a V12.

there is reviving material on ebay around 40 to do it, also there is company in chemsford who do it for you by hand or machine if u need info let me know

Car hood warehouse in Chessington - www.carhood.com replaced mine for 395 from recollection. Very good job and very time served guys - was done in a day. They're very honest - I asked if I should replace my hood and the response was not to make a quick buck, but to say no, fine for another 3 or 4 years and then come see us.

Indeed however, D-class are also meant to be very good.

Thanks. Average about 15-16 MPG but can squeeze 25 on a run at a half decent cruising speed. Servicing costs don't need to be mega, especially if you take it to an indie, however it does take 10 litres of oil! You will get slightly better MPH from the 6.0 V8 but only 20ish so not a lot in it really.

Lets face it, if your worried about running costs then you don't buy a V12 or a V8 for that matter ;)

And watch for head gasket leaks from the V12......

Many thanks. I prefer to know the approx costs to put in the budgets, also I'd rather pay more for petrol and servicing than witter it away with depreciation!!!

My current SL320 has done 94k miles, had it from new and it has only had one main battery, gearbox oil cooler pipe and both UV joints on top of standard servicing. I'm completely sold on the MB's buid quality and reliability up to 95/96, cars I've had post this period in my opinion couldn't hold a candle to the earlier cars. I've advertised my SL so if it goes then I'll buy something to run through to April then try an SL73, SL600 or SL60.

You know SL60s are very rare, and SL73s ultra-rare (only 85 made, all LHD)?

This one attended the MBOC National SL day earlier this year

Hi, Sorry I can't PM yet. The Mille Miglia edition was built in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinsons 1955 win of the '1000 mile race', astonishing achievement of average of nigh on 100mph on Italian country roads.......

This SL was bought for my mothers 50th and I took over the running of the car when grand children (& golf!) came along. The car was supplied by Callanders of Glasgow from new and was serviced by them and then subsequently Mercedes Glasgow till last year by the same technicians who performed the original PDI on the car. We have all MOT's and tax discs with service history for the car, a chat with Mercedes Glasgow on registration '1955 KO' will reveal all you need to know about this car. The service book is signed by Sir Stirling Moss with photographic proof of this.

The R129 SL model during the year of launch was driven my Juan Manuel Fangio with 'gusto' at press events, he commented that the R129 was a great progress of the sports Mercedes models and took to a higher level the qualiies of the predecessors. There is script available of Fangio's detailed comments on the R129 on launch year, huge praise for the universally over looked R129 models.

The last service was carried out by an expert independent in Glasgow who has been through the car top to tail. Reason for leaving Mercedes Glasgow was we were not guaranteed who was going to be working on the car, an eighteen year old or the guys who did the PDI fifteen years ago. Mileage is now 94k.

Car drives perfectly, the recent UV joint, tracking and fitting of four new OEM tyres give this car an 'all you need is pads, front discs and an oil and filter next year if you do the miles' this is less than £400. The only other part that has been replaced was the drivers door mirror that was caught on a garage door reversing out, I have the original parts also. Instead of storing again in a carcoon from Nov to April, I've decided to sell at £10.995, the plate 1955 KO is available at extra cost.

Yes, appreciate they are rare but I'm happy to look through pages and pages online to find something by March April next year, I've looked already and, yes there are few cars that have the right provenance. I'm in no rush.

Good luck with the search :)

A while back I was offered a cracking SL60 by a member here, but just couldn't justify upgrading from my 500 (which even now has only covered 50k miles) :(

Can Anyone recommend where the best place to get a new soft top (supply & fit) for my SL 300 1987 R107 please??? I am in London but will travel if necessary for the right price/quality!! Cheers, Mick.

I used the car hood warehouse a while ago for a mohair hood for my old MK1 golf. Cracking job, perfect fit, good price too. Would use them again.

Give Dave at d:class a call 01483 722923 you will get an excellent job done

Well dclass did an excellent job of my full exlusive nappa leather interior for my sl60. They used oem nappa and it looks and feels just like my s600 nappa.
Dash, pillars, sunvisors, center console, door cards. My sl60 is just being finished once done i will post a full photo and thread on it. The project is now finished.
