R170 Warning Lamps

Hi,

I have a 2000 SLK 320, and am have a problem with the warning lamps.

On inserting the key and turning it to the driving position (without starting the engine), all of the warning lamps come on. The SRS lamps goes back out after a few seconds, but all of the others remain on. The car will start, and the warning lamps will then go off, and it drives fine, no apparent problems. This only started happening a couple of days ago without any obvious cause.

Anyone know why all the warning lamps are coming on?

Every car does that at start up to check all indicators and warning lamps at start up. If they come on when you are driving is more worring.

That is the normal behaviour our R170 exhibits, it is the car doing diagnostic tests - I guess the questions is why yours didn't do this before?

I've only had the car for a few weeks, but it might be my memory not working properly....

What you are describing is perfectly normal behaviour. Don't worry and enjoy the car.
