Sue's SLK has the beginnings of the usual issue on these cars of rust at the front of the wings - one is fairly visibly bubbling and the other is just starting.

Of course in the old days, someone would cut out the bad bit and weld in a good bit - but I understand that this is not really practical/cost-effective nowadays?? So looks as if we will have to get 2 new ones :(

Are "pattern" parts available given the age of SLK's? Guessing that MB prices would be on the high side! I do see used ones for sale, but that strikes me as a false economy.

Or anybody near Preston handy with a welding torch? o_O

Any comments please?

Not sure about patten wings for the 171, but I recall the genuine ones are around £250 each

Not sure that deserves a like! LOL

Do the guys who were handy cutting out rust and welding on new metal no longer exist?

Slight change in wings from chassis no F081917--- date 19.06.2005 supposedly?

Used wings are £50 ish. Obviously you have to add paint on top of that. Probably £100 for paint each

How about these guys in Barnsley know nothing about them but seem to tick all the boxes when you see the projects they have worked on??

But aren't I likely to have the rust problem by using second hand wings?
