Hello,

Does anyone know how to keep the DRLs on at the same time as the headlights?

The DRLs looks great in the day but when it gets dull outside the auto headlights kick in and the DRLs go off.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Liam

Hmmm, they don't go off on the 55 AMG, I have the intelligent lighting package too though, so I have the strip LEDs under the lights and also a strip inside the light cluster.

Under what conditions would you want the DRLs off? If you want them on all the time that you're driving I'd consider wiring them straight up to the fusebox in the ignition-on position!

Hi can you please specify where in the fuse box to wire it as I'm upgrading my standard fog lights to drl and I want them stay on all the time when the engine is on but have a bit problem with wiring. Thanks

You will need an ignition (or auxilliary) controlled feed - you may find this at the horn (usually ignition fed and earthed by the horn push) otherwise find a convenient place to tap in at/near the fusebox. Use a testlight to check and confirm.

You will also need an earth - tap into one of the brown wires.

Depending on the drl, you may be able to dim them with the sidelights on. If they have this feature there will be a third wire - tap this into the sidelight feed (test with a testlamp).

If in any doubt, get a competent auto electrician to do it.

Hi. I have an SLK200 R172 and recently upgraded my DRLs to that of the SLK55 R172. The parts were plug and play. However, when i switched on my engine, the DRLs gave a short flash and didnt turn on at all. It seems like it didnt have enough power to light it up. And it gave an "Adaptive Light" warning sign on the console.

I informed the seller about this and he told me to use a 25W resistor or can-bus. It partially solved it. I now have the DRLs on my dim during daylight and it switches off during night time when the headlights are on.

So i brought the car to a workshop and told the guy about my situation. He hotwired the DRLs to the headlight and the DRLs are now working... its bright both during day and night.. and it gave a "Parking Brake" warning.. I switched off the DRLs from the car settings and the DRLs are still on bright both with or without the headlights switched on. But it solved the "Parking Brake" warning issue.

So now how do i make the DRLs bright in daytime and dim when the headlights are switched on as it should be?

My car has it.. but it only happens when i plug in the SLK55 DRLs. If i revert back to the original DRLs, it works fine

Ok, I think you have two options.
If the lights were plug and play, I would recommend that you speak to these guys who have the star equipment, and most importantly the knowledge to use it to see if it is possible to code your car to work how you wish. I almost certainly is.
You would then have to remove the gubbins that the workshop has fitted.

OR
take it to a decent auto electrician who will be able to wire them in such that they function correctly - you would need to supply a dimming unit (from somewhere like ebay) which is activated when sidelights are switched on.
No idea how this would affect any bulb failure circuits - you may need to get this programmed out via star.

Excuse my ignorance, what is the difference between the standard and slk55 DRLs?
