Car
2 Mercedes B Class 180 CDI 2010 auto diesel.
My niece has a Mercedes A class on a 18 plate. The car has a sensor which if using main beam and a car is coming in the opposite direction the headlights will automatically dip. What has started happening is all the lights and dash light go off just for a few seconds then start working ok. Has anyone heard of this problem and found a solution? Thanks for any help.

Are you saying that the ALL the lights in the car - both the external driving and rear lights, and the dashboard illumination - go off when the headlights auto-dim as result of an oncoming vehicle?

Hello Mark thank you for getting back to me. Yes that is what is happening. All goes off for few seconds and then all ok.

Hello Boyband its my nieces car thats having the problem. I have just sent her a message to ask.

Hello again, yes the lights work manually.

Hi , Potentially it could be a number of problems such as a short , fuse not installed correctly or a faulty sensor.

It's no good guessing but I would suggest that you need to find a good auto electrician to inspect the cars electrics.

At present the lights do work manually but it needs to be sorted out sooner than later.

Do the brake lights work and indicators work ?

Sorry I could not be any more help.

My niece is going to book it in to have it checked. Thank you.

Check battery connections, including the other end of the ground cable where it connects to the body. Don;t touch the +12V connection on the battery whilst the - connection is connected (otherwise spanner between + and car body will go bang)
