Not sure that mudflaps on the R230 SL will look ok, but would really like to see a pic of them on a car. I can't find a pic anywhere. Anyone help please?

Please don't.

(sorry Olly)
I recently put original mud flaps on mine... Tyres were kicking up sh#%e and even small pebbles along the front door and rear bumper side; 4 hours of washing and waxing ruined in an instant...

Daft thing is the original ones are quite discree as far as mud flaps go! If they weren't I'd take them off... will put some pics on, see what u guys think.

We put mudflaps on the SLK and CLK. They look fine. Cant see why an SL should be any different.

reflex, dont put so much on ;) use the nanotec gel and apply sparingly and leave it for 20 mins before driving and it wont spray eveywhere, please please dont go the mudflap route... ugly.... :)

Once upon a time many cars were fitted with mud flaps as standard. They serve two purposes and it's interesting to read in this thread that the primary objecting is for protecting ones own vehicle. In fact, one of the primary objective of mud flaps is to reduce the spray you kick up to following vehicles on wet roads. I've noticed a great increase in spray over recent years as less and less are fitted.

I'm not sure I would fit them to my SL, but I don't agree at all that they're ugly. Standard, flapping, flat rubber mud flaps would for sure be out of place on an SL, but the made to fit, moulded ones look OK to me and not at all out of place.

Regards,

mudflaps cause drag and dirt build up behind them which increase corrosion on your arches, hence most modern cars do not have them nor as an option hardly ever as standard. And IMO they do look ugly ;)

times have moved on from "once upon a time"

Nothing to do with the manufacturer being able to ream some additional cash from you for buying them then?

If you own a black estate you get a double whammy of, er, black and estate, meaning all the road muck is drawn by the bodyshape created turbulence around the rear end.

I can't get AMG rear flaps (unless someone knows better??) but I'd be pleased to find some (sorry Alps).

Don't forget, in my case, they would blend nicely with the body colour and properly moulded MB ones are inobtrusive.

If it was flaps or the current brown road sh*t all over the back I know what I'd prefer.
