I have a low mileage ex Singaporean SL500.The Aircon emits a weird plastic type odour,as its running.Any ideas? Maybe a filter?
I have a new charcoal filter ready to install, and also wonderd how difficult that may be.
Also, the cabin vents, bezels, and the centre plastic are all showing signs of degradation.I've owned 20 'Benzes, and never seen this problem before. They look greasy,as if some solvent has been on them, after the aircon has been on for some time.

Any help greatly appreciated

You can get an odd smell from aircon if there is mould build up on the condensor (or is it evaporator, whichever bit is in the car on an aircon system)

It requires some chemical to be put in and it kills the mould. However, i'm not sure whether the nice warm weather in Singapore would cause the mold to grow. The smell is much more like old socks then plastic though

However, your other problem does sound like someone has used the wrong cleaning solution and disolved them - which may in itself be the smell.

I'd be tempted to ask a MB dealer

My SL looks fine, just the stinky socks odour every now and then !
