I know a couple of people with 34's. You're better off making enquiries on the GTROC forum.

Will have a look on GTROC, cheers

Says above in my quote that's it is on the V-car register V-Cars and write-offs | MotorTorque Guides
Dropped these guys an email and below is their response " Hi there The car was repaired by a insurance approved body shop. It had a very minor scrape on the rear 1/4 panel. The repair is fantastic. It was to done to a extremely high standard due to the nature of the vehicle. It was registered on a category c. However the only damage was very minor and the repair is perfect. Dealing in high end supercars I can assure any potential buyers the repair is excellent otherwise we would not be selling the vehicle." Must have been a lot more than a minor scrape ! Otherwise why would it be written off by an insurance company?

In honesty, you'll probably have look quite hard to find one that has been treated with respect and looked after properly.
My understanding is that there are not many genuine ones in the UK, with numbers dwindling each time some young thundercat thinks he's starring in a Fast & Furious movie and wraps one round a tree, further reducing the numbers... This sort of carry-on also contributes to 34's holding their value.

All I need to do is find someone who looks after their R34 like you look after your wagon :) - I may have to start looking on different planets I think!

Yes, you've echoed my suspicion.

What sort of 'very minor scrape on the rear 1/4 panel' writes-off a "£28,995" car...

Prob written off for the fact the insurance company looked at a price for replacing a rear quarter which with getting one from Japan as I'm sure Nissan UK wouldn't have one it would of been a hefty cost....

I would steer clear of a CAT C write off, its usually more than a minor bump otherwise it would be a CAT D, plus it will need to go through a VIC check..

Cars written off as a Category C case, according to the ABI’s Salvage Code, “require a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) before a V5C registration certificate is re-issued by the DVLA.” The VIC is carried out by the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA).

That strikes me a hell of a lot of cash for a CAT C car. If it were me I'd be hunting a completely standard UK car than a Japanese import.

I was only looking at them on a whim, I'm currently deciding between a Lotus 2-Eleven and a new Exige.

I had a Category D car once which also required a trip to VOSA.

If we set aside our Mercedes AMG bias for a minute :) and looked at which car would appreciate in value more in the future which do you think would?

From all the looking about I have done it looks like the R34 would - of course this would be based on both cars being in a good well looked after condition.

Agreed.

I suspect that only MB's like Black Series' would hold their value like the 34's would. Not including classic MB's, of course.
