So I decided to replace the radiator on my lovely CLS500 - merely as a precaution. Its nearly 10 years old and means the auto cooler will also be new. I've been in the heat exchange game for well over 30 years and cut my teeth fitting and repairing rads so no bother I thought. Obviously I know about the new fangled hose fittings with the retaining clip and O rings - but after 2 hours removing various bits to get to the hoses - stumped. They would not budge - and neither would the 2 oil cooler connections which are the same principle. Had it not been for the cooler pipes I could have got rad out and tackled the hoses on the driveway as I had already removed the connections at the engine end as they were standard hose clips. Anyhoo, it was getting cold so put it all back together to tackle another day.
So, question is - any tips / ideas? As I have a new radiator I may resort to destroying the connections on the old radiator. I will probably leave until spring now and replace belt and tensioner at same time but any pointers appreciated.
