Haven’t been here a while. Hope everyone is doing well. Useful ‘has this been discussed?’ feature.

The other day she went in for service and when I checked on her in the Mercedes app, there was a message: rain closing feature - monitoring active.

Is this an automatic feature?
Can it be turned off?
Does it apply to my panoramic roof only or my windows as well?

Thanks

From what I remember the feature just works on the panoramic roof. The roof will move after around 3 hours or if the rain sensor on the windscreen gets wet the open roof closes to the ventilation position leaving the rear of the roof on tilt. My printed handbook warns that the feature may leave the roof fully open if the windscreen does not have rain fall on it despite rain falling on the rear it says this may happen if the car is partially under a carport. Warning is also given that heavy rain may still enter the cabin in heavy rain if the car is on a slope.

The panoramic roof and windows can all be closed when locking the car with the key fob by holding the lock button until all movement is completed. You can also drop all windows and open the roof by pressing and holding the open button. I have used this when returning to the car in the Soth of France as it allows heat to escape prior to getting into the car. The air conditioning then ably needs to cool from the ambient temperature and not the oven like heat of a car locked in the full sun for hours.
If you are driving with the roof fully or partially open and are entering a tunnel press the air recycle button on the air on control and the roof will fully close, on leaving the tunnel press the button again and the roof returns to the earlier setting.

If it starts to rain and you have the roof fully open it will close to the ventilation setting which leave the rear raised. This feature does not always work in light rain at speed as the airflow over the windscreen prevents the sensor detecting the raindrops ( it’s the same sensor as the wipers and as we know they don’t always come on when we need them).

As for Mercedes me my car sends the message to my phone when doors are not locked, windows or sunroof are open but as my car is a 2016 model it only shows remote locking/ unlocking of the doors. Newer versions of Mercedes do allow remote operation the the roof and windows.
As. For turning the feature on or off I cannot find any setting in the car or on the Mercedes me app.

Thank you!
