parking brake cable???

I have the same problem. And I also have problems with my parking brake /not releasing easily somtimes/. I suspect that the parking brake cable is to loose and it is hitting the driveshaft. Or it is a piece of plastic broken which is holding that cable. I was trying to find it today, but was not able to locate the part, I might need to take the car to the garage. Maybe my guess is wrong, I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Could be the same problem I had on a C Class and sounds a bit like Janko39's problem....lose handbrake cable that was tounching the Propshaft....common problem according to my Merc Indi.

hi still hear this rattle i have well the mer could it be the centre bearing do you think thats for the prop :dk:
cheers up2u

have a look

is the noise when driving and on take off and at certain speeds it might not be so bad

i bet its the 10p rubber bush that joins the auto gear stick to the linkage under the gear stick they wear and fall out quick fix

remove center console
in gearstick area
four alan key bolts hold down the auto box gear stick remove them

lift up and you will see a flat plate going straight down with a ring on the end i bet its got no rubber bush in it and the linkage rod that clips into it is rattling i have done this so many times on mercs and people thank me for getting rid of that noise that drove them mad

hi just a wee update the noise is the prop shaft center bearing just need to find one now at a best price some where local or even ebay
cheers up2u:)

hi this is time to put my hands up the rattle on the car was the hand brake hitting the prop shaft and not the center bearing so will put the bearing on the shelf for a later date !!
this was really funny because it sounded like a drying bearing with a badly pitted bearing track so i am asking people that find themselves in my predicament please check first not after as i did
yours up2u

PS, the car is really quiet now!!:thumb:
