Rear folding seats

Wow, thanks for this wealth of information, guys. I am just reading and taking it all in.

I think if it came time to sell the car, I could get the wiring for the headrests done at a specialist as I know nothing about wiring.

I could also recoup some of the cash back by selling my current seats. I have the black sports seats, leather, with the white stitching so would have to wait for those to come up.

I have seen more S212 estate seats come up but assumed they wouldn't work?

Will read up and have a think!

Ah yes, I have seen that - the music video that happens to have someone narrating a W212 rear seat removal :D

Jokes aside, yes, it's a very helpful video. That's what made me think that it wasn't really that difficult. No idea how to do the lever mechanism bit, just yet, though!

And yes, if I keep my rear seats and shelf, I could theoretically put mine back to OEM and sell the other parts separate to the car and recouping the money back. Then you never have to worry about the wiring for the headrests drop down thingy (which I have never, ever used anyway!).

Went on a bit of a hunt today as things stalled with some engine work until a clic-r tool arrives tomorrow. Decided to clean up the back of the car and poke around, lifting up the rear seat bench. I found all sorts of goodies on there! (See gross attached pics). I made £2.70 profit in change out of it, too, not bad. I think the kids of the previous owner enjoyed putting some kind of sticky dummies into the ISOfix points, so that was fun!

What with the engine work I'm midway through doing, the inside of my house/kitchen now looks like a breakers yard. Thankfully I don't yet live with my girlfriend :)

In other related news, check out these pics. I created another thread about it, but perhaps relevant here. I hate this curved plastic bit that I've highlighted in the pic below.

I wonder if a) it's easily removable/replaceable and b) if the curved one in the below pics is what comes 'stock' on the models with the foldable seats? That third pic of the white car below is 'the dream'!

I'll be able to check my father's W212 within a few days as I have to pop over to the folks' house to help them out soon.

Cheers,

Ed

As an update.. I have so far ordered... both release handles (received), the boot carpet and the... thing that goes under the boot carpet to support it. So I'm gonna go from this:

To this:

I still need to get the seats, the rear deck, and the fasteners to tie the boot carpet down.

Can't wait to get rid of that stupid curved piece of plastic in the boot - even if I didn't convert the rear seats, getting rid of this plastic is worth a couple of quid to me. You lose so much practical space with this. Who has curved luggage??? I'd love to meet the person that designed that and... well I wouldn't do or say anything to them but I'd be mildly annoyed.

I'll post some pics when I get it all and do the conversion. I'll post the part numbers, too.

I'll start a new thread when I have all the bits, but just testing out the fittings to make 100% sure that I have the right parts for the boot. Apologies the pics aren't great or in order but you should be able to get the idea.

I haven't bought the fixings hooks or the clips but as you can see it fits well.

Unfortunately the plastic trim 'thing' arrived cracked so need to see if I can get a refund, replacement, etc. They are easy to find and cheap, I'm hoping the breakers just refunds me the money and lets me keep it, as I can then glue it. It goes under the carpet anyway.

N.B. some pics are wide angle and some are normal, so there isn’t a lot more room with the old plastic trim! Still getting used to a new phone...
