Well it looks like I have the first major problem with my W221 S320 ,parked the car came back and the rear suspension is right down, fortunately I was only a mile from home,no warnings on dash, until I turned into my street when it put up Malfunction,I called my local mechanic and he put his diagnostics on it ,no faults showing,he ran the test on the pump and it is running ok,I have pushed the raise the suspension button and it makes no difference,I am waiting on his return as he is very busy, anybody got any ideas.

Look at the rear levelling rod from sensor to anti roll bar, the clip fails on the bar. Pita to do.

I will tell the mechanic when /if he arrives, will call him soon, normally take the car to a indy in Colchester but that is 20 miles away and although the car still drives,it will be a slow old run down the A120 and then through Colchester, the local guy is good but he is not a expert in Mercedes, hoping it is something he can see that is wrong once he gets the car off the deck.

Bathside garage have a Proper Code reader and he knows how to use it, which is half the battle these days.

No faults will be shown , as its functioning but it doesn't know where the car height is at.

Thanks guys, never thought of Bathside,it always looks like a mess,Rob insists he will be round this afternoon,I took the car down to him with the intention of if he was over run with work,I would risk the run up the A120 and A12 to Colchester, that short run to Robs was a real bone shaker, about a mile into the run this morning I got the Malfunction message again, still nothing like car too low see dealers or any other suspension fault message, thinking on it yesterday I went over a sleeping policeman not fast but coming off it the back end made a thump, come on Rob save my bacon.

Yes it does But he has done various Merc's w211's ,w204's and has got the latest code reader's, he successfully diagnosed my e55k and a friends e320 cdi and also as a recovery truck which could be handy for you.

Rob is cool but always has alot on also. 01255 551663 is Darren/wombles number if you need it.

Yes Rob has just left as he had to take a car for a MOT,he has a Snap on Solus Elite,we have a situation where the sensor has 113lb of air,you can remove that air and put it back but none reaches the air suspension,I have just taken out the nearside boot side cover just in case the check valve or something was hiding at the top of the strut but nothing there,he is asking a mercedes ex mechanic at the MOT centre, about what is happening, for instance you can dump and raise the height on the front and the numbers go up and down for the rear but nothing moves, you can alter the numbers by manually jacking the rear ,Rob will return after his tea,I think this might be a long one,I may have to pay Rob for his time and go to Colchester,as his supplier is quoting £635 for nearside strut,as Rob said you do not want to pay that and find it is something else, too true I don't

Sounds like the Valve block or line, as both of your rear struts are not working. Not the struts

Exactly what I was thinking,I have a feeling I will be making a bumpy drive up the A120 tomorrow,Rob will be around in a while so will see what he says,he has too turn up I have his big trolly jack.lol.

where in essex are you? can help if local to colchester

Well saw Rob this morning and paid for his time, then went to triple C at Colchester, had a chat with Chris and he laughed and said well I will order a valve block if you want but it will not cure your problem, and even though he was rammed out with cars he dragged a trolly jack out and connected his £8000 diagnostics on the car and as a couple of posters suggested it was clip and sensor he then produced a once only and fixed the car on the tarmac outside his garage, ordered the part from Mercedes Ipswich, which will be delivered tomorrow he will ring me and fit the same day,he has to be a complete diamond,he just loves cars ,his new garage is at least 3 times bigger than his old place and it is still bursting at the seams.

Perfect result. Sounds a good man to know for the future.

So was it the clip then?

Ok guys I have had the car repaired it was a broken ride height sensor arm,a few of you flagged it as that and Chris had my car on the lift at 3.50pm,showed me the new part cost £36.05 plus vat,and so two hours later having read all the mags on offer the car came off the ramp,as many have said the job is a complete PITA,Chris said it was the hardest one he has done I could see them struggling at the height of hostilities there was 3 guys working on it,the one bright spot was that the car that came off the ramp before mine was a fantastic Mercedes and I was able to find out all about it,now all i have to do is post some photo's will have to find out how.

Ok have decided that this is beyond me will wait until the family turn up on Sunday, but I will tell you it is a amazing W140 .
