Hello everyone. I am a new member on the forum. To be honest, this is the first forum where I registered ))). please help me with a serious problem. Two weeks ago I bought a Mercedes-Benz E class 250 cdi w212 saloon and today I went to the service to change the oil and I asked the guys to check what problems the car has so I know what needs to be changed, repaired, etc. and they noticed that the oil cooler has leaks,The steering hydraulics are leaking, the oil pump needs to be replaced and rear subframe It is very rusty and was welded one time, and in September I have to do MOT and it will be 100% fail because of the subframe.Could I make a recall at the Mercedes-Benz center to have it replaced and if yes so,what parts could I have a recall on? I apologize if I didn't explain my problem correctly, because I wrote this post through Google Translate because my native language is not English.

Any information is welcome.
Thank you and have a good day.

Lots of threads about on rusting rear subframes. Basically, if it has rusted from the inside out, MB are replacing them FOC until car is over 20 years old.

You have to pay for bolts and, if needed at the same time, brake lines.

Hello and welcome.

You cannot make Mercedes recall the car, many people are having the subframe replaced at little or no cost but not every owner is receiving the free repair.

As for the other problems. Did you buy from a dealer or privately?
If from a dealer then you may be able to take the car back and reject it.

Oh wow, I just recently bought, privately an E220 (2010), and the rear subframe seems to be alright, but from what I'm reading Merc would even replace if bought privately? what if services not always been done at Merc? would it also apply?

As above. MB never officially acknowledged the corroded rear subframe issue in the UK. As result, there's no recall as such. What MB are offering (in most cases) to owners of cars affected is officially classified as 'goodwill contribution'.

Absolutely - if you bought the car from a trader, then you have 30 days to reject it for a full refund, as per the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I would certainly reject it, given its condition.

When I asked an MB tech about this he implied that history wasn't important. What mattered (according to him) was the age of the car and the nature of the corrosion.

oh wow! if that's actually like that I think that's pretty impressive of Mercedes to do.
might have to drop by my local and ask about it.

I just called up and booked mine in at MB Colindale for an inspection.

I made sure I was able to get though into the workshop and speak to the fella who was doing the inspection while he was doing it.

He showed me a C Class one that had been replaced. Rotten.

@Mi6ka

Was this a private sale or from a trader?

If buying or selling privately, I would recommend as either the buyer or the seller, always getting an MOT done someone trustworthy very soon before sale, because there are legal implications (and for traders) of selling a car not in a roadworthy condition, and that MOT before the sale stands all parties in better sted.
