Morning.
I've been looking for a good late W220 S500 for a while now.
I currently drive a 1999 W220 S430, with which I have had almost 60,000 miles trouble free miles, but it is crumbling away with rust and not economically recoverable.
I have grown to be very fond of this car and I'll be very sad to see it go.

Quite by chance, locally, I saw a post-facelift S55L for sale and went to see it yesterday.
I had discounted this model previously because of the horror stories with the ABC and I don't really know as much about them.
There are a quite a few niggly things wrong with it such as soft close doors not working and paint blemishes and several others but on the whole I think it is worth getting it inspected.
I live in Southend-On-Sea in Essex. Would anyone be able to recommend pre-purchase inspection services that are reasonably local?

Thanks,
Andrew MacLean

I bought the car. Getting a full assessment by TM motors, including the health of the ABC system, including the PSI from the pump.

You may have made a wise choice, as the front suspension dropped and the ABC check light on yesterday. I switched the car off and on again and it rose immediately, it has been fine since. I was actually at the garage at the time and they suggested it could be an electrical glitch. It will be checked anyway.

A local specialist recommended that you 'work' the ABC to keep it healthy. Raise and lower the car, use ABC sport at least once a month. This helps to circulate the fluid round the system. Rodeo is only recommended if you have replaced some parts.

I believe you had a mechanic check out the car and spoke to John Daly (may be not you).

Anyway, I'm all in. The paint will be corrected next year. I will figure out the driver door (soft close).

This is a serious machine and ULEZ compliant. It's a win for me.
